What grade are you hoping for OP? I know of several kids who were admitted from the WL in the LS within the last two years (my DC is in the LS). And yes, Potomac most certainly sends out rejections; not everyone gets WL.
Potomac's WL is a pool. If they need to go to it, I believe there is a meeting and a decision is made as to which candidate an offer should be made. |
| It’s very rare that it moves but it does-my DC got off for IS years ago. This was on June 1st. That is the last day contracts are binding. I had given up hope after spring break movement. So hope for the best but don’t expect anything and you never know. |
| We're hoping for 4th grade at Potomac. Any idea if that will move this year? Also, is it easier/harder to get into Potomac and similar schools in the lower grades or at 9th? |
| Lower grades. Almost impossible at 9th. |
K is easiest as it all new kids. |
actually, the other way around. 9th probably easiest because its more or less new kids to the school. K is a lot of siblings, legacy, VIP, strong hooks. |
The waitpool letter is basically the same thing. |
No it is not. |
No idea if 4th will move this year, but our DC was accepted during a non-entry year from the WL (in late April) - there is always hope. If Potomac is your first choice and your DC doesn't get offered a spot, apply again next year to show how interested you are. I know of kids who were WL in an entry year and accepted the next during a non-entry year. I don't know for sure if 4th/5th/6th are easier to get into than 9th, but I think they might be. Although 9th adds more spots than any other year with the exception of K, I think the acceptance % might be lower than 4th or 5th just because so many kids from K-8 and public would apply. Hoping for good news for your DC. |
You don't think it's the same in 9th? Many siblings, legacy, VIP every 9th grade year plus academic and sports super stars. |
A lot more siblings coming into K than 9th. They're all pretty hard years, but K is near impossible now. 7th and 9th probably the two easiest for outsiders |
It is tough (even siblings rejected for K, etc.), but always hope - my guess is the 2022-2023 K has a significant (40-45%?) number of siblings. |
4th is the easiest. Most people do not want to move kids in elementary school. A lot of Potomac parents wait until 7th and 9th. K lets in a lot of kids but at least 3/4 are not siblings so worth a try and then 4th and then 7th and of course 9th. |
Right, and the rest legacies. |
| You have to have someone with influence campaigning for you to get in Potomac. |
