Help! What detergent to use for baby items in a high efficiency washer?

Anonymous
I had extermely sensitive skin growing up. I had to wash my clothes in Dreft until I was in high school!!! Regular detergent would give me horrible rashes and make me itch all over. Imagine my difficulties in sleeping outside the house! However, I am an exterme case. People with very fair skin and red hair are more likely to have skin sensitivieies (and oddly colic and sleep issues). So when I gave birth to our son, I was a bit paraniod about using the Dreft. However, after about 3 months I tried the All (which is what the household uses) and my son had no problems. I was happy to ditch it because I feel like the Dreft did not do a good job getting the clothes clean. I think there is a good use for Dreft for some people, but certainly it is not necessary for the majority of the infants to be using it. Whenver his clothes were really soiled I would use regular detergent first and then rewash in Dreft-PITA!

The only thing is, do you all notice that the Dreft makes the clothes softer? I noticed that after I switched to the All, my son's clothes got more stiff.
