Clomid Success

I have very irregular periods so knew that timing was a huge issue. I took one round of Clomid (50mg dose) with no side effects and took an Ovidrel shot to trigger ovulation. It was all I needed. I'm pregnant with our first and just waiting for his arrival. He was due yesterday...so worked for me. I was diagnosed with PCOS as well.

17:35 here. I realize I shouldn't have said that "clomid is nothing like IVF drugs" -- sorry, this was just my impression, and I agree with others that every body is different, and you might react well to some drugs and not well to others.

Best of luck OP! Sorry that clomid is not working well for you.

I am pregnant (1 baby) after 1 clomid cycle. I took 100 mg days 5-9 of my cycle (after taking Provera to bring on my period). I wasn't ovulating regularly due to hormone irregularities. I had an HSG day 10. I ovulated day 24 (later than expected with clomid) am now 3 months pregnant. I didn't have any clomid side effects. Overall, it was totally worth it for me.

One of the reasons I tried clomid first was because my insurance has a ridiculously low cap on fertility treatments so really it would only cover one try with IVF, maybe. As long as my OB could do clomid, which is an inexpensive medication, she could colde me as PCOS, not infertility, which saved me from starting to spend towards my cap. Just food for thought.

OP here - thanks everyone. Helpful info. 10:24- your point is the exact reason I started with Clomid and will probably suffer through another cycle of it (though I will talk to my dr re: femara). My insurance won't cover infertility treatments. I can't switch insurance until the Xmas/New Year holiday (open season for fed'l employees), so really IUI and IVF isn't an option for us until then.

I tried two cycles of clomid for PCOS, and I didn't ovulate. One cycle of follistim injectible and got pregnant. I didn't do IUI or IVF, just timed intercourse. I had no side effects from follistim, and contrary to what another poster said, my RE told me that they can control injectibles more accurately than clomid. With stringent monitoring, you are less likely to end up with mulitples on injectibles than on clomid.

That's not necessarily true. Multiples are no more controlled on injects than they would be with Clomid. It all depends on the person and their response to the stimulation medication.
Personally, I produced more follicles with injects than I ever did on Clomid - therefore I always had a higher risk of multiples. This was even with more stringent monitoring. Each person responds differently to the meds - for you, Clomid might have produced multiple follicles, for someone else, it might only produce one.
