What is the disciplinary process like for teachers in MCPS?

That sounds right based on our experience too.

We heard she still got paid and it wasn't an administrative leave. I think it's how the union operates. It's like terrorism. They can't replace the teacher and the class doesn't have a teacher which creates a huge problem for the school.

Teacher unions are the worst of all unions. So shameful.

Have to disagree. When parents wanted teachers to put their lives at risk so some parents could get free daycare. The teachers union protected its members, and it turned out that even in those wacky red states where schools didn't close, students had similar learning loss because the pandemic was stressful.

I asked my retired teacher mom about this and she said she was probably sent to training to correct the problem.

I don't think the data support this. There was much more learning loss in areas where school districts closed and I think the fact that you accuse parents of wanting free daycare just shows how ridiculous you are. Parents wanted kids to go to school and learn and because they were experiencing high rates of mental distress.

I think your mom is really old. This doesn't happen in MCPS.

My guess is that it is some type of paid administrative leave while they investigate. I wish that unions would get better about recognizing that its ok to let problematic members go. They advocate vociferously for everyone and it's not great. Most members deserve the full weight of the union behind them but some do not.

I have never seen the paid administrative leave unless it's a formal criminal investigation and the police are involved such as someone who might have sexually abused a minor.

Administrators turn a blind eye to most of these types of problems that OP described and even if they want to do something there are a lot of rules and documentation so it's really difficult to put someone on leave.

Yawn. So boring and tired. Grow up and educate yourself because you sound like an ignorant, broken record.

I attended many “together again mcps” meetings. I can confirm behind the closed d

Doors and off social media… most talks absolutely were about free babysitting and parents upset they had their kids all day. Ended up leaving the group BECAUSE of that. All those people (you know the leaders of the group. They wrote every op-Ed they could to advance their careers and get published under the guise of caring about kids) who pat themselves on the back as “advocates” are mostly a joke.

Randi’s rant on Capitol Hill was an embarrassment, much like Howard Dean’s screech.

If the teacher is being treated for anxiety or depression, they probably won’t face any professional consequences. We had a colleague have a mental breakdown a few years ago and saw some really awful stuff to a kid. No consequences. Another teacher simply repeated (in the form of a question) the horrible thing the kid said and she was placed on administrative leave.

I know a staff member who was paid while on administrative leave even though there wasn’t a criminal complaint. It’s like a placeholder. It would be a vacation if they hadn’t been stressed out of their mind about being in limbo. They got written up and were put back in the schools.

What was the complaint? I think they are forced to investigate in some places but schools try to avoid.

NP. Really? Do they just either fire them or do nothing? It seems like retraining would be a good thing for questionable/inappropriate behavior that falls short of being a fireable offense.
