| My son is 3 and always brings a small toy (small animal usually) to school. We always tell him to put it in his pocket, but we always find it in his backpack after school. It gives him comfort to have something with him all the time. He does not do it for attention. The teachers don’t mind and are very good at telling him to put it away when he needs to. |
This is more like a transition item which is fairly normal at his age and makes sense to me. What op is talking about is more when kids are a little older and more social with friends they want to show each other things and kind of share and trade. Very normal but usually in this case schools prefer you keep items at home. |
| Definitely wean off this before kindergarten. I understand it developmentally, but it’s going to be a problem in K. If she really is seeking attention, think about how else for her to get attention or why she thinks that’s the best way to connect. |
