Physically aggressive co-worker

Anonymous
Could you work at Aldi, Lidl or even Sheetz? I believe they were all advertising pay around $18 per hour.

He sounds like a type A person than an aggressive person.

Is he a cook/chef? They are like that. Very short tempered.

+1 this co-worker is an abusive bully and this is potentially dangerous. You’ve mentioned it to your supervisor and they cannot keep you safe. You need to find a new job.

“Hi manager. I’m putting in my notice. I cannot continue working with a co-worker who is physically aggressive. It’s an unsafe workplace.”

No-one will pay what I make now. $18 an hour, and I'm home by 10 pm. The area I live in isn't close to a lot of restaurants. I worked at a nicer one, but getting off at midnight wasn't working. I would drive home. It was so scary. So many semi trucks out. Night driving is hard for me. I work assembling food, not serving it at a sit-down restaurant.

OP, now you’re making excuses and we cannot help you. We are being very clear. You are not safe and despite escalating the issue, management is not protecting you. You must protect yourself and figure it out. Driving at midnight is unsafe and scary but so is the treatment you are receiving at this restaurant.

Okay, so then stay. You’re given advice to quit after saying that you’re unsafe, but then you come up with all these reasons why you can’t. What exactly do you want here?

She shouldn't have to quit. Would you say the same thing if she worked in a different sector? She needs to document this and see if she can work in a different area of the store or transfer to transfer to another one.

Agreed - she shouldn’t have to quit. We are being pragmatic and she needs to be safe above all. Sure she should document and take any recourse available to her but she needs to prioritize getting out.

It’s great if you’ve got evidence of a crime to your person. Only problem is, you must first be a victim of that crime. We’re trying to avoid that here.

Oh, PP, do you always make excuses for abusers? Or are you an “aggressive” person yourself? Because I’ve known plenty of Type A people who are ambitious and professional and not bullies.

Ooooo, oooo, I’ve seen The Bear. So, SOME are sociopaths, and some are not. Find the ones who are not.

Detail all the other actions, with the door slamming, shoving, et. Tell them you do not want to quit but if the situation isn't improved you are going to.

I’d mention the knife dropping. Even if an accident, it should be documented anyway in case it turns out this guy is always dropping knives around OP.

Op here. He's not a chef. It's a sandwich shop. We also have a manager on duty at all times.

If you are working in a sandwich shop, you can go out and find another job this week OP.

Op here. Not with the pay I am receiving and the benefits. I am at work now. He's not here even though he always works today. The manager switched me to making drinks/coffee. It may seem like any other food device job but I receive stocks, 401k, and lots of free food.

Well stay then, and stay away from him if the money is worth it to you. I would try to find another location.
