I bought a cute brand new small four door sedan brand new for daughter. Last year she had a minor accident but it set off four airbags and crumpled hood and was totaled everyone safe.
So I learned small cars are great as no one hurt. But they total easily. Was a 2017 Chevy Cruze. Really a nice cute car. That daughter just graduated College and car was supposed to go off with next kid. I then took insurance check bought my self a new car and gave other kid my 2011 Cadillac CTS. Same accident happened again different kid. This time given Cadillac weighs more and is more solid it survived accident. So there is the fine line between size and safety features. FYI I did not fix Cadillac, runs fine and no desire to change front bumper and fix debt in fender given a 20 year old is driving it. Hey don’t have to worry about theft! BTW the Chevy Malibu if want a sedan is a good solid car in a crash. Has some weight to it. But not too big. Lots of used ones out there and they depreciate more than Japanese cars and cheap to fix |
Crumpling in he hood, using all air bags and totaling the car may not be called minor accident as you suggest. |
| We got the youth a new XC 90. Safe, space and solid visibility. |
Was a 12 mile an hour accident. SUV high bumper was above bumper and hit right into grill, hood. Of course the smaller car came to dead stop causing four airbags to deploy as someone on passenger seat. A larger heavier car would have pushed SUV and not stopped so quickly. Downside of small cars with large SUVs on road. They total easily. |

Buying new is always a rip off. CarMax is also a scam. I just picked up a Honda Accord from a private party and paid 13k. CarMax wanted 18k for exact same vehicle.
You really can't go wrong with a Corolla, Camry, Civic, or Accord. |
| I would let her drive several different vehicles and observe how well she drives in each one. Lines of sight differ in each vehicle , etc. Some drivers will function better in one car over another. |
You always go wrong those four models in used car Market |
Only 60k for that thing lmao |
Wrong |
| We have the same discussion now. We went to look at new cars and it seems that dealers are marking up several thousand dollars so a $20K Kia is $23K. A 2019 Corolla is $19K. So, we are probably going with the Corolla. Base model vehicles are very hard to find. Anyway, we have a car to sell so we figure we make money on the overpriced sale too. |
| We bought new crv. All the dealer prices in used crv were cheaper. But when you went to buy them they had the damn market adjustment of 2k or more and a bunch of dealer addons. Went out of Ffx county and got a new one under msrp. Several thousand less than 2019 models. And then I don’t have to worry about tires. Brakes , etc |

OP, what are the 2 cars you currently own? One option would be to give her one of your cars and either you or DH upgrade to something new.
I'd hesitate to get a brand new car for a brand new driver. But that's colored by the fact that my first car was a 12 year old beaten up Toyota Camry. |
I am mostly concerned both your teenagers have been in air bag deploying accidents. They need to SLOW DOWN. |
what do you expect from a parent who continually refers to the car she bought her kids as "cute." great priorities there |
