So is the Walls cut-off this year a 4.0?

Said no one without a kid at JR, ever.

That’s an exaggeration. Students turn down Walls for JR, every year.

The only JR kids I’ve met who turned down Walls are scared it will be too hard and too much work (their words, not mine).

We must know different people, then.

I guess the question is…. Did any ward 3 kids without a 4.0 get an interview?

That's absurd...plenty of kids turn down Walls for JR every year. I'm not a huge JR booster (and the statement that "JR seems better in all ways" is equally if not more absurd) but I have had kids at both schools and know the pros and cons of both pretty well. There are a lot of very smart kids to prefer what JR has to offer and these kids have no problem with working their tails off.

Dumb question - where in Aspen or elsewhere do we see GPA?
DC is a 7th grader at Deal with As and A-s but always a B+ in Spanish. Want to many their expectations for next year.

It's a little weird, but DCPS doesn't calculate GPAs for middle schools. You can use the same scale that high schools do to calculate it (like a B- is a 2.7), but DCPS does not calculate it for you (at all DCPS middle school). You won't find it in ASPEN.

You can use this chart to calculate it:

I have no idea if you are making this up. But if true I am beyond amused that all it took was a phone call.

Not making it up, I was calling because DS was not offered an interview with a 3.85, and I wanted to see if it was a mistake

Thanks for reporting back. My kid also had an 3.85.

Same here. I called too but left a voicemail so I guess I don't need to follow up.

Are you just calculating that yourself? Or is there an official dcps calculation somewhere? What grades count towards the GPA used?

There is no official DCPS calculation as GPAs are not calculated for middle school by DCPS. They use every grade by the grade setting that someone posted a couple posts above.

What a weird situation. No GPAs calculated by GPA and interview comprise the entire application to Walls.
