Catholic girls schools - matriculations

Academy of the Holy Cross:
They did not post a matriculation list for last year, however, they did post "college acceptances." Keep in mind that with acceptances, one student is often accepted to multiple schools, so not a great tool for evaluation. However, there were only 3 top 25 schools on the list (UVA, Northwestern, and Georgetown). Those three could have been one person, but we don't really know. Even if it were three separate students, the percentage of students attending top 25 schools is extremely low in this school. https://www.academyoftheholycross.org/sisterhood/graduation2022/2022-college-acceptances

Oakcrest:
This school also only posted acceptances. Only 2 top 25 schools on their list of accetences (Penn and UVA). https://oakcrest.myschoolapp.com/ftpimages/1017/download/download_7071134.pdf

The Academy of the Holy Cross is full of MAGA it has never been a bastion of academics. My DD played Basketball and soccer with families from here. She was the only one not attending HC. Long story as to how she ended up on this team. We experienced this from age 11 -18. I am absolutely horrified at how many of these families are now cult members spewing crap from Epoch times. That alone tells me academics are not there.

The poster was referencing Holy Child not Holy Cross.

You post about MAGA families at AHC every time it's mentioned here. My DD is a recent grad and we never once encountered any MAGA families nor did my daughter report that of any of her friends' families. I'm a dyed in the wool liberal so I would be on high alert on this. You must have encountered a small group that somehow clouded your thinking.
Yes, the school's college placement isn't as great as the other schools. I think this is in part due to the fact that it has a much higher percentage of girls who need financial aid for college so they go where they can get the most money.

Holy Child's ten year list on their website is pretty strong. I'm sure Visit and SR have stellar ten year placements, but I also saw a lot of range and great options on the schools HC has placed in over the past decade.

Agreed. We have not encountered any MAGA idiocy at AHC and would not be happy about that. I don't know what the PP is talking about.

There is a lot of snobbery toward AHC on this forum. SR and Visi cater to wealthier families who have narrow definitions of success and failure when it comes to college.

----

if concerned about college matriculations, one should take a look at the schools these students headed to recently. To make it easy, below are 2022 matriculations for Holy Child, Stone Ridge and VISI.

There is another recent thread comparing SR and VISI, so I pulled some data from there. Basically if one were to evaluate matriculations based on % of students going to USNWR top 25 schools, SR and VISI would be the better choice for a student concerned about college admissions to top schools. For the class of '22, the % of students matriculating to top 25 schools are:

SR: 24.2%
VISI: 22.5%
HC: 8.7% (note only 2 schools represented--NYU and UVA--both #25)

Note that for Holy Child, there were no top 20 schools. Also, I was surprised that as a Catholic HS, there were none going to Boston College, Georgetown, or Notre Dame...not even one student.

I have a boy, so at a different school. Brilliant, great resume, great stats, etc. However, he didn't apply to any of the schools you are using as your measure of high school worth. He didn't want to go to any of them. This is not a reflection on the quality of education he received at his high shcool. People who haven't been through it with a real kid with real opinions and choices, tend to read all of the wrong things into the list of schools students choose.

I have a kid who felt the same way...among all the top schools on that list, there was only one he wanted to attend badly and he got in. Refused to apply to any ivy's despite his perfect ACT score and other great things on his resume. That doesn't mean these matriculation lists are meaningless though. It gives you an idea of the level of academics of the HS overall.

Not if kids aren't applying to prestige schools or are choosing the schools that give them most money, and you have no way of knowing that from these lists. Where kids choose to go to college has less to do with how well educated they became in high school that the million other factors that go into that ultimate decision.

These threads are started by wealthy snobs. They don't care about anything but appearances.

If you look at SR and VISI ten year list, you will see multiple admits to the top ivies. Still much stronger. Any school can be made to look good with ten years of data.

Yes. Those also. But I specifically know the HC list and the girls.

So you aspire for all women to stay home and be mothers.

Hell no thank you.

I still have these utter racists on my FB feed. I can share.

Mine is not snobbery these were families we spent every weekend with. I am sick over absolutely sick over their behaviors. From Trump Trains to god-awful FB page posts.

Dear HC families,

These are just examples of FB posts open to the public by current HC parents.

"The Chinese told Brandon to leave it alone"

"Because Hunter’s bank account already received the $$$$$$$"

"One thing I am confident of, if there was a certain "orange man" in the white house, NONE of this crap we have witnessed the last two years would have happened!! There would be no war in Ukraine. Gas and food would not be at the price they are today. I guarantee that balloon would have been history as soon as it passed into Alaska. It never would have made it to the mainland!!"

I can post at least 30 more that are horrible. Antisemitic, racist etc...

So yes I have every right to say the HC is breeding MAGA.

To suggest that AHC is the most conservative / full of MAGA is ridiculous. I find AHC to be more liberal than both SR and Visi. This was true 25-30 years ago and is true now based on my observations and talking to current teachers/students. There are outliers at any school. You cannot judge a whole school based on a few individuals....

This is different time period. Kids are making well into six figures without a degree. No one here ever takes about the amount if merit based aid kids are getting from various schools.
