It's not stressful for some kids. They actually enjoy studying. I'm sorry yours doesn't.
My kid goes to school until 3; plays sports until 6pm; does 3 hours of homework between 6pm and 12 midnight. That still leaves plenty of time (3 hours) for dinner with family, Tiktok, Snapchat and silliness.
She goes out every Friday night with friends, also sees friends on Saturdays. Sundays are church, homework from 12pm to 6pm and then youth group.
How much more down time or social time does a kid need?

NP. Snide comment aside, your kid goes to bed at midnight and wakes up when? Doesn’t sound healthy.

Indeed. Response is unnecessarily defensive and nasty and bedtime is too late.

My DD has enjoyed NCS, made great friends, gotten excellent grades, thrived in a number of extracurriculars, and is excited about her college plans, but would still label the stress level a 10. It is what it is. The implication that a student who finds it stressful is somehow inferior to one who doesn't, or incapable, is ridiculous.

NCS is a 10. Great education but the stress and anxiety is through the roof. I would 100% send my daughters somewhere else if I had to do over. I have a current senior and 2 graduates. My 3 daughters all say when they have kids they will NEVER send their girls to NCS. Of course, they also love their school, their friends, their teachers, etc. It is just a very stressful, academically competitive school.

DCUM parents on these threads seem to sort into two groups:

1. Kids are raw dough to be shaped, pounded, and cooked into the right shape under high heat. The best kids thrive. The others fall back. Too bad. It's a competitive world.

2. Where can my kids have the best life experience and still do well enough academically to succeed in life later on?

The two camps DO NOT share any common ground, apparently. I pity the kids in Group 1. Some will succeed in life because they were driven, but many more will just be anxious wrecks now and as adults.

Now wait five seconds for the Group 1 parents to pile on and piss all over my lame approach to their kids' future.

My friend sent her DD to NCS for a year a few years ago and ran for the hills.

The entire thing is nuts. And we have DCs in those schools. Hope these crazy parents started a therapy fund for later.
Notice no boyfriend/girlfriend just “silliness”, out one night per week. Maybe it’s cultural but it’s weird. I’d have kept quiet. Sounds like a star only if an HBO documentary

Potomac School. Definitely 10+

My DD loves NCS and thrives on the rigor. It's true that it isn't a school for everyone, just as colleges like MIT or Swathmore aren't. For an ambitious, self-directed , and resilient girl, though, it's a great fit.

So a kid has to have a girlfriend/boyfriend in your mind?

NCS is stressful for some girls and not stressful at all for others.

Fit is very important for this school.

Can you elaborate on this? What makes it stressful for some?

The level of academics is a great fit for some and a very poor fit for others. If your daughter enjoys learning and working very hard--3 hours of homework a night---GREAT fit. I'm not being sarcastic.
This is a dream school for this type of girls.
For others, it's a poor fit. There are easier schools.

It's not about intelligence--it's about diligence and being the kind of kid who just likes to study, study, study. They exist and they thrive at NCS.

I have two daughters. One is absolutely thriving at NCS (high school). She gets straight As. She enjoys learning for learning's sake.
We are sending our second daughter to a different school. She needs more down time.

Reading this me makes me stressed! I was that kid who loved school and learning but I could have never done 3 hours every night.
