Did Your RE Give you Odds for Having a Baby?

Yes. I was given a variety of detailed statistics based on age, approach, etc...

They were realistic numbers that were hard to hear and didn't always make decisions easier, but I appreciated the directness.

I was with Dr. Abbasi at CFA. Loved her.

Wow. Some of you have incredible stories! I'm so happy for you.

My doctor at Shady Grove showed me a chart of success rates at certain ages. This was for IUI. I think it compared timed intercourse, unmedicated IUI, and medicated IUI.

60% given our age and here we are two years later with no baby.

My boss has a less than 10% change given she and severe infertility and they had twins within a year or steering IVF.

This was a decade ago. Started off at Dominion and they were very optimistic. 3 failed IUI later, I switched to SG since their IVF stats appeared better. They were also very optimistic, but 2 rounds of IVF had horrible results- low # retrieved and nothing to transfer- and DE was encouraged, that my eggs had some inherit problem. I was 30. I loaded up on supplements/well being and ended up getting pregnant naturally just a couple months later, and again several years later- both successful and healthy.

Yes, and larger clinics will have better control on their statistics because they have bigger datasets to work with, which can be a proprietary advantage in itself. We were given odds of 30% likelihood of success, and we were successful. Sometimes I wonder if clinics actually downplay the odds, so as not to give false hopes and to make sure the patient is going into IVF clear-eyed on the outcomes.

My first transfer, which failed, they didn’t say. However, at my 2nd transfer (successful) my doctor told me she believed there was at least a 60% chance of a live birth.

SGF gave me a 43% chance of live birth after 1 cycle, and 77% chance 3 cycles at age 34 with DOR. Did my 3 cycles, then had five miscarriages on my own after stopping treatment. Never had success between three clinics for IVF, second opinions, and RPL.

I got a 7-8 percent chance but for some reason thought that was good and went for four stressful and hopeful rounds of own egg IVF. No surprise, none of it worked. So then I did de and now have two kids and ask myself why I didn’t do it straight away.
