Critique my list! (or give thoughts)

Surprised not to see Bancroft listed if you care about feeder and bilingual. Or Powell if you want bilingual with a shorter commute. You won't get in anyway so maybe it doesn't matter, but I don't see why you would switch from a school you like to breakthrough (which also has no feeder) so maybe pick one of these instead?

Not impossible.

You are PK4 OOB, no sibling, no Spanish dom at one of the above schools? I guess I could maybe see Shepherd, but even that seems unlikely for PK.

Yes. Not Shepherd. And we actually got two different offers last year, one on match day and one later.

Sorry- one was not one of those schools, but a Deal feeder.

Take Lafayette off! They’re already overcrowded.

Impressive! I did not think this was possible at Lafayette, Murch or Oyster.

john Lewis is a good school. MS and HS may be similar to your current MS/HS?

Put Oyster Lafayette higher.

Powell doesn’t have a good middle school, so point adding it to the list.

We also got a PK4 offer at a WTOP school. I think the pandemic decreased PK classes this year because people were so worried about class closures/schools reclosing/etc. I bet next year is more normal though.

If OP cares about dual language and wants a short commute, it makes sense...arguably more sense than breakthrough. She can still use her inbounds MS if she doesn't want MacFarland in 2030, though I think it's hard to predict what each school would be like by then or what other options there will be.

OP here. Reset the list and removed Breakthrough since yes, same issues as where we are now.

I am beginning to think if we got into Lewis, Takoma, Whittier - why not just stay where we are now unless we think the school/culture/neighborhood community vibe is better than where he goes now.

Wow, good to know. Keep them on the list OP!

I would reorder the DCPS schools to prioritize feeder patterns. But I would also really think hard about commute. We commute to a WOTP school (also a beneficiary of more open slots last year in later grades!) and it has taken a toll even though it’s only about 10-15 minutes and a nice drive through the park. I would not want to go any farther and still sometimes fantasize about returning to our walkable IB.

Op MS is probably MacFarland.

Woops disregard the first part - posted after your reordering!

Makes sense, unless you prefer cap city for MS and HS to wells and Coolidge. I would also put oyster and Bancroft above the monolingual wotp schools, but that's your preference and it's unlikely to matter given the extremely long odds for admission at any of those schools.
