| Rumor is that Lindsay Appiah is the one who wanted it done. |
As the former GC and Deputy Director of DYRS, and the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, she would have known better than anyone if Hilary Cairns’ approach was too soft and detrimental to public safety, so props to her for actually advocating for something to be done. |
| The rumor is that it was petty and personal not over real policy issues. |
Well, considering the juvenile crime problem DC has, and the revolving door of the juvenile justice system, it probably was a sound policy decision as well. You can’t social work your way out of the juvenile crime issues the city is dealing with. |
|
Well it REALLY seems to be paying off! Things are so much better in the city now! I forgot how much better the crime rate has gotten since this decision was made.
Thank you Lindsay or her staff member! We all thank you! |
Hilary, it’s been 6 months, not really enough time to fix the effects of letting every kid stay in the community no matter what their history was and what crimes they committed. Find another job, maybe one that just focuses on social work. |
I’ve heard this too but I didn’t believe it at first but now that you said it, it sounds believable. |
Wasn’t she Director for a little while before getting promoted to Deputy Mayor? I agree she would know best about who was equipped to lead that agency. |
Was she still working there when Hillary became Director? Maybe she knows something the public doesn’t about Hillary. She (Lindsay) seems like a very good leader. |
I agree with this. |
Haha. I think this is a Hillary supporter not Hillary herself. |
+1 |
+2 Two things can be true. It can be true that Hillary was too soft with juveniles and not the best leader but that Lindsay could have some grudge against her and saw the opportunity to move a weak person out. I heard when Hillary got there, some people left abruptly |
Yes, because people who actually work with the kids involved in the juvenile justice system know that not every kid can just be sent home with a hug and promise to do better. These crusaders are not doing the kids any favors by sending them home to environments that have already proven to be detrimental. |
