Americans, why don’t you want to consume farm-fresh vegetables?

Anonymous
I like to pick my own. I don't know what I am making from day to day.

No I don't want you to pick up my veggies for me. Thank you but no.

The OP says it’s delivered.

You sound unhinged PP. A touch of paranoia, perhaps?

Oh please, OP’s neighbors simply don’t take her up on an offer, and she’s online demanding why all “Americans” don’t want to consume “farm-fresh vegetables.”

Why do you need someone else to participate, OP?

Yes Americans only want cheese whiz and pretzels. /s

So then I’ve got 3 pounds of rutabaga in my fridge, which I neither particularly care for nor am adept at cooking. This is stressful to me. I buy veggies a couple of times a week so I can get small quantities of exactly what I want. I’d love to be able to do this straight from a farm, but as far as I know, I can’t.

OP here. Yes, I’m with you on the downsides of a CSA. Which is why I thought this personalized order setup would be a hit. You get to order exactly what you want based on the farm’s availability for that week.

NP. I don’t want to meal plan based on what a farm has available on the East Coast in February. I cook with plenty of in-season ingredients, but I want more variety than that.

+1.

People also generally already have their veggies sourced too. They go to farmers markets or have a co op share already. People aren't going to see a Next door post (which also could be a scam) and go "ah yes, this is going to make me change my buying habits"

I cook tons of vegetables but I've got a system down that includes weekly trips to the farmers market, Misfit Foods delivery, and occasional Whole Foods. I don't have a need for another service.

Because there’s a farmer’s market I go to every Wednesday, and I buy only what I want and need, including “farm-fresh vegetables” AND cheese AND bread AND organic meats, and I have no need of what you’re offering.

You seem overly dramatic. I’m not sure how you made the assumption that all Americans don’t like to eat farm fresh veggies. I do, but I don’t like the randomness of what comes in the boxes and I am rarely able to use them all up.

I don’t want other people picking out my produce for me - I’ll do it myself at the farmers’ market.

This must be the same poster who can’t fathom why people order their Starbucks on the app versus going in to order. Why is there so much dumb trolling lately?

Here's another response saying "why wouldn't I just go to the farmer's market?" My city also has a new service where you can order specific farm products for weekly pickup, no minimum order, and I've just never used it. Because farmer's market.

Most CSAs are open when my cash flow is low. or have weird pick up locations/delivery days that don’t work for me. I love the idea in theory but generally unable to participate. I do grow my own and wish there were u-picks closer in.

Haha yes, I made the mistake of joining a winter CSA once. I know the standard American lifestyle is not great for the environment, but I SO MUCH prefer my grocery store broccoli and green beans trucked in from afar than the 3 months of nonstop beets and turnips. I hate turnips, tried to cook them so many ways that winter and they were all terrible.
