Daycare Termination - Am I Being Irrational?

I wasn't late, and have only been late once in the past (and only three days at that). The only issue that I can think of is that we are private paying and that the accounting was not up to date.

I literally paid $1,600 last friday to pay ahead through the second week of March.

Half of us are private paying. The center is relatively mid-size (approx 30 children) and half are subsidized. They bill subsidy a substantially higher rate than private (I believe upwards of 550 per week).

The way they handled it was atrocious. I can understand denying entry to a family who is consistently and constantly late and they have received reminders to pay on time. But just once on a fluke? No.

You should not have trouble finding daycare if your child is over too. You can usually find spots for them if you’re flexible.

So true. Right now I don't have a backup plan, but I have leave. My supervisor is understanding so its approved, unscheduled.

I have contacted a few daycares that have expressed interest and that they have openings (helps that my kid is potty trained).

Contract says two weeks notice, so I am not going to fight for the money that I already paid to be returned to me.

Maybe this was a sign that this place (which I will not name, but am definitely going to report ) is bad news.

Sidebar, I never had any complaints about how my child was treated by the actual staff that interact with her.

It's just my stomach turns with thinking that this owner is cooking the books and making an attempt to possibly scam the private payers.

Thanks for the feedback, so glad I'm not going back.

I wonder if they were overbooked and worried about an inspection

What does it state about being late/not in payment in the handbook?

That could be the case.

Interesting angle. Could be true.

People like this don’t see a child who needs care walking in the door. They see a transaction, and you can bet every single aspect of whatever performance they provide in connection with that transaction is designed and executed to favor them. I don’t know how much day care is “supposed” to cost these days, but for what you’re laying out they should be welcoming your kid with open arms and a big smile. I’ve never heard of a facility turning a kid away at the door the first day payment is late. At most they should be sending them home with a note that says they need to have money when they come tomorrow.

Anybody who thinks a 17 year old can’t walk a kid to day care is nuts. Your 17 year old did the right thing. They protected the youngster and called you.

These people would never have access to my child again. If I was in the mood for some sport litigation I might sue them for a day’s lost leave.

+1 to all of this. My two kids were at several daycare centers and nothing like this ever happened. You're smart to pull your child.

To be clear - taking electronic payments isn't paying in cash.

There is no way to cook the books or steal a credit card or debit card payment.

They are just dysfunctional with classifying their charges, obviously.

Is it possible they are breaking the contract on purpose so they can give the spot to a higher-paying subsidized kid? Definitely report them to the accrediting agencies.

I definitely wouldn’t come back. Good luck finding a new place.
