Are schools like Berkley, UCLA, and Michigan on the list? I wonder how much no grades grinds them to a halt while trying to review all those applications.

Given my experience at a different university, I’m guessing those applications are shunted to more experienced admissions officers.

It probably depends on how well known the school is

In my training to read applications, we were told not to read applications with grading systems that were unfamiliar to us, and to let the experienced readers (full-time in the admissions office) read them. At that one school, at least, they want every application to get a fair read, whether or not the student comes from a well-known school
