Yes. And it failed during Covid. Look up Brookhill. Good thing the rink was replaced by an empty office building. |
| Such a freaking shame. Is there any effort underway - I know some folks who maybe could give a nudge? |
Up to Albemarle County. The university isn't building one. I think they had decent support. JMU used to play there too. |
| Maybe the boars head inn would like to make a fancy rink to go with the fancy UVA branded tennis courts? Couldn’t hurt to have another winter sport option to draw folks to the resort. |
| Any updates here? Seems crazy there isn’t ice in C’Ville! I would expect a facility like The St James to do well? Are any efforts underway to get local ice? |
| Say what you want about Liberty, they figured out how to bankroll a rink. (Ducks incoming fire) |
The independent group spearheading the rink has gotten initial approval in Greene County. Who knows if it will ever happen. https://dailyprogress.com/news/community/greenenews/ice-rink-could-return-to-charlottesville-area/article_5bfee156-bf0d-11ef-9689-972b1d7bed67.html |
It’s a club sport dimwit |
UNLV beat Denver. Club doesn't mean weak and plenty of club teams outdraw most NCAA sports (and many NCAA hockey teams too). Plenty of strong programs. Your AAA player likely wouldn't make Liberty. But UVA is terrible right now as they don't have a convenient rink. I think the program was a pretty good experience when Main Street was still around. Hopefully they get something in Albermarle and the school supports it. |
Per my post above, a group is looking in Greene County, their Albemarle County plans never materialized |
Nobody gives a shlt about club. UNLV tied Denver, shootouts don't mean dick and they especially don't in exhibitions. Denver was missing its coach and stud defenseman to World Juniors. Denver wins the next 10 games if they played UNLV. |
