Was that his attorney or a fellow inmate in jail? Anyway, no, it’s never addressed again. |
| There is one branch of my husband's family that believes that all its descendents should attend this school. I've always found that bizarre! |
I just finished the last episode. There is a brief point where they say that after 5 years, Larry was finally evicted from the apt. |
|
What happened to Talia? She moved back into the dorms while the others were in the apartment but it didn’t say why. And then there was no mention of her until the end credits where she was called a co-conspirator but never charged.
Isabelle plead guilty but how long is she in jail for? |
“[Isabella] faces a maximum of five years in prison and she will be sentenced on February 22.” |
|
WOW. I just finished the series. Unbelievable, and very well done. I'd read the article a while back but never fully understand what happened.
Felicia's story was heartbreaking & then uplifting. |
Her LinkedIn showed her working as a paralegal in South Carolina about a year ago. |
|
Did Larry orchestrate all the video-ing? Were his victims covertly videotaping him? I don't understand where SO much video came from - did I miss an explanation in the series?
|
It wasn't his attorney. To me, it's sort of unclear how they met but could have been jail. "Chen, 53, said he met Ray, 60, in 2005 during a tough period in his life." https://nypost.com/2020/02/11/how-accused-sarah-lawrence-sex-cult-leader-dragged-me-into-sex-tainted-world/ “When you’re in the middle of it … it’s extraordinarily difficult to pull yourself away from this and see the complete absurdity of it all,” Chen said. |
They're Larry's videotapes. The victims videotaped at his bidding. Most of them came out in court. This Vanity Fair interview with the director goes into how the director got the audio and video tapes (before he was indicted Larry emailed some to him!) Larry thought the videotapes showed his innocence when they show the opposite. https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/02/larry-ray-sarah-lawrence-sex-cult "Director Zach Heinzerling on Hulu’s three-part docuseries Stolen Youth, which features firsthand footage and audio of Larry Ray and his young followers: “Each video seemed more horrible than the next.”" |
PP again. Also you can tell from the docuseries because you hear him say stuff like "Izzy turn off the video" (I think that was during the particularly harrowing night with Dan) |
It's mind-blowing to me that Santos, and by extension his siblings, got involved through Santos' romantic relationship with Talia, but then when they broke up she moved back to campus, had a more normal college experience, and graduated. Hard to wrap my mind around how ruined their lives are and his own daughter escaped relatively unscathed. |
I would submit that because they got out, their lives are not ruined. Life is long. They are still young. |
Maybe ruined is not the right word, but they lost a decade and are facing serious challenges they wouldn't otherwise be facing. Santos didn't graduate and was living in shelters. Felicia didn't finish her residency and is still not practicing medicine (and may never be able to). Isabella has plead guilty to criminal charges. Not to mention all the psychological trauma. |
| Just an amazing documentary! I feel bad for all of them. They were all brainwashed. I would have not fallen for this cult. 7-8 people in a cultured one bedroom, uh no way. |
