TJ exam - Feb 4

Now more students attend TJ exam than before because the new application system is so simple that almost all AAP students in my kid's middle school applied TJ and attended the exam yesterday. In the old system, usually only 20 - 30 students applied TJ, and about 9-11 students were admitted into TJ every year. In the new system, the amount of students applying TJ increases nearly 5 times, but the number of students admitted into TJ in 2022 is only 16 . The competition is so strong.

The main objective of the test is to NOT be able to differentiate. The competence with which FCPS is doing this is pretty impressive. I wish they showed similar competence on other things - like educating children.

They lowered the bar and made tests easy so everyone wants to try (admission seems to be hit or miss). Naturally, number of applicants will increase. You find comments on this board where parents are just asking to apply. Evaluting these many apllication will be nightmare. Hope FCPS publish statistics on it rather than beating the drum of how more schools are sending students!
Essay seems to be just too easy, It is reallky confusing how they are going to decide based on it which student should get in!!

The essay question is already online, and yes, does seem fairly simple. I assume they change the question for the kids who got an exemption and take the test later this week?

Confusion is the goal. Taxpayers financing this farce don't need to know too much.

You really believe the essays are evaluated? I think they throw a dice and the kids getting 6 and above get-in (1 point for URM, 1 for each experience factor, 1 for under-represented school, are added to the number the magical dice shows). Real easy for the gatehouse staff. The effect of this is the "hit or miss" you describe.

Do the prep centers get copies to help prep kids for next year's exam or do they still just debrief students?
