What matters more test scores or safety?

Sadly there are issues in every MCPS school. The only differentiator is neighborhood HHI. The higher it is, the better the school has to be, because those parents will not hesitate to pressure the Principal to hire good teachers and provide enough AP courses. They will provide enrichment and tutoring to their kids outside of school, which also makes the school's academic job a little easier.

wealthy schools are able to sweep issues under the rug.

They never do, though. The communities are super woke and like to examine their failings publicly and flog themselves about it. I live in Bethesda and have witnessed this many times over, for anti-semitic signs at school, unruly behavior, slurs in the corridor, and now the televised meeting at BCC over drugs in bathrooms. It’s exhausting, but people think public assemblies and class explorations of racial equity are the only way to address the issues. Meanwhile, my friend decided to homeschool her kid from Sligo MS in Silver Spring because racial discrimination against her kid went unaddressed by the school. I only had to contact the Principal ONCE at Bethesda ES for an instance of bullying and the boy in question gets an escort in and out of class.

They do not sweep under the rug. There issues are better addressed in wealthy schools, even if sometimes it’s over the top and sometimes it’s not enough. They always make an effort.

? of course they do sweep certain things under the rug. Not all, but there are some cases. Wealthy parents have the means to do that.

The only test scores I care about are my own child's. It's self-segregation based on wealth or perceived wealth and it makes no sense to me to overspend on a house and then not be able to afford other things like college. Safety I do care about.

Oh right, sure. Wealthy Parents. They're clearly a monolithic bloc intent on ruining your life by constantly making you feel bad about yourself. They have powers you can only dream of. Anyone that lives in Bethesda, Chevy Chase or Potomac is tainted. The W schools are positively perverse.

Conversely everyone else is clean as a whistle!

Yep. That's the path to heal divisions and move forward as a nation.
