| Noyes Children’s Library in Kensington. It’s tiny and it’s just one big room with toys. They do a good story time as well. I have fond memories of taking my daughter there when she was a toddler. It’s a real gem. |
Yes! Noyes is a one-of-a-kid hidden gem in MoCo! It is sort of the opposite of these other, clearly very nice new and modern libraries shown above but that's what makes it special. |
DP - this is a perfect example of different things for different people, I guess! I opened this thread to say the Chevy Chase Library. I love how tiny it is, it feels so cozy. I grew up going to this library, though, so maybe it’s partially the decades of good memories. |
| I like the Georgetown branch. Cleveland Park and Palisades are nice remodeled places if a bit cold lighting-wise. |
|
My favorite is the Chevy Chase MD branch. I dont like the Chevy Chase DC one. Little Falls is also great.
I like them small and cozy feeling, like a house. Dislike how the new Silver Spring one feels now, but my college age kid likes to work there- good vibes, they say. |
|
The kids' section (or rather the entire kids' *floor*) is amazing in the (new) Silver Spring branch. Fun, spacious, interactive, wide selection of books.
The rest of the library, although also attractive and modern, I agree is a bit of a miss in terms of functionality. So much space and so few books and comfortable places to sit. It's actually too big. |

I've noticed that newly opened libraries feel this way, but they get broken in and the collection grows, so it doesn't last. When the branch I go to reopened after renovation, I thought it felt cold, but after several years, I love going there. |

I spent so many hours of my life in the Aughts at the pre-renovated Chevy Chase DC library and the Chevy Chase-Maryland library. I worked in tenleytown for 20 years and would walk to that library at lunch and sometimes drive over to Little Falls. They were all great.
Switched to ebooks because they were easier to read holding a baby many years ago, but have certainly lost something in the process, even if I read more books since then. |
Same poster. I love libraries and don't want to be negative, but the remodels almost never work. I lived in Rockville right when they opened their new library and they got it right. I'd driven to the old library before from DC (can't explain why now a million years later), and the new library was terrific. |
| I so miss the hours I spent at the Reston Regional Library with my kids when they were little. As another poster said, we would make a day out it - playground, lunch out, then library, then home for naps. Of course, now that branch is sadly not one I want to go to anymore due to the homeless men who hang out inside and out and make rude remarks to patrons. |

I really like the Georgetown library. Comfy chairs to sit and read, and plenty of tables for working.
I enjoy visiting the Chevy Chase DC library but I've not found it a good place to sit and read. The Mt Pleasant children's room is awesome. |
| The loudoun libraries are all pretty great. The Brambleton one, as mentioned by a PP, is spectacular. |
| The Wheaton Library is really nice. It's been renovated in the past few years and has a coffee bar on the ground floor. It also has a friend's of the library store where you can buy really cheap books. |
