Substitutes Teacher

Kids should put their phones away during class. I see no problem with any teacher enforcing that rule. (The insulin thing is a medical accommodation.) And you shouldn't be texting or calling your kid during class unless it's a true emergency.

I’m not sure if this is allowed or not. I was asking my son a question, and he told me he couldn’t respond because he was told to put the phone away. Teachers allows them to respond to messages and all. They won’t do anything in class, they are lucky I’m
Not complaining to the principal.

Was the sub at Heritage?

DS had issues with a sub there this week. The sub threatened to take his phone even after DS explained it was used to monitor his blood sugar, he wasn't texting he was making an entry note. Even other students had to chime in and tell the sub to leave him alone.

This situation did warrant a complaint call to the principal...again. This is the THIRD time this year that he's been hassled by a sub.

Please don't roll your eyes at the sub in this situation. They are told so many stories all day every day that it's hard for them to know what's real or not. I'd be directing my annoyance at the school leadership who is not giving the sub the appropriate information

+1 that’s on the teacher for not having it bolded at the top of the sub plans. I always put medical information in a different color where it can’t be missed

If you’re texting your kid during class you are part of the problem.

Why do you need to “ask your son a question” during class? Were you on fire? Was your house on fire? Send him a text and he can answer at lunch or between classes, or keep him home and let him be on his phone.

It’s precious how you think you have the moral high ground over the sub here.

We have always collected phones at my school. However, this year I receive fewer phones than I have in previous years. Their parents tell them not to hand it in. Fine. Then I should never see the phone. When I see them, I take them, lock them up and assign a detention.

I am so sick of the phones. There is no reason for students to have phones out in class.

First parents to email to asking why the kid got a low grade on an assignment / doesn’t have an A or B. You can’t have it both ways. If you told your kid they can use the phone all day, they won’t learn and their grades will reflect that. The kids whose phones are up are doing well.

Umm what on earth is wrong with you? You text your kid during class and expect him to respond? Wow. Teachers are right. The phone situation really is the fault of crazy parents like you.
