I'm so sick of 495 traffic

Because it is not a nightmare??

I’ve lived in both, it’s a huge step up.

I don't understand why you don't know if your agency will cover it. If you have a Metro benefit at work, it should be written down somewhere. Personally, I take Metro and don't miss the driving at all.

It’s an amazing, relaxing road, full of the nicest drivers you’ll ever meet.

The govt solution is to widen the beltway, lol

Widening isn’t feasible, but double-decking it would work great. Keep the upper deck as a limited-access “bypass” around DC for I-95 so all the through traffic is separated from the local traffic below. Bonus would be in rain or snow the local lanes would be largely unaffected.

Sounds expensive. Do you need to close down the lower road while working on the upper deck?

495 is really bad. Absolutely awful in the Maryland part.

That being said, I would take my chances on 495 over 95 between Springfield to Fredericksburg, VA down to Kings Dominion. That is soul-sucking awful any day, any time. Literally one of the worst stretches in America, probably top 10 on the planet.

BW parkway and 95 from 495 to Baltimore is terrible, but nothing, absolutely nothing is worse than 95 south of 495 to almost Richmond.

It could be worse, OP.

We should add more lanes to 495

Always wondered why that portion is backed up, don't they have express lanes???

Exhibit A of too little, too late.

I spend little time on 495, but yesterday I drove from DC to College Park Ikea. What should have a 25 minute drive took three hours because of, I assume, an accident. I spent two and half hours at Ikea and the traffic on the other side was still at a snail's pace.

I can't help but point out that the person driving on 495 complaining about traffic *is* the traffic.

Not sure what is so funny about it. Congestion pricing via HOT lanes are proving very effective in VA.

This.

We moved from Springfield to north Alexandria and it's been life changing in the reduction of commute time, costs, and stress.

But Alexandria sucks...
