Yes - my DD retook a C class during the summer online and got an A. It really helped her gpa. Encourage the retake. |

You are all insane. No I would never ever send my kid to summer school for a passing grade. One class?
Calm down mommies |
Thanks for the different perspectives everyone! As for you and "the ledge" person, I always wonder why those who are so confident in their choices insult rather than explain their thinking. Plenty of people said no summer school and why. Only you two insulted without explanation. |
| This policy just seems in line with allowing retakes of tests to get a better grade … |
| So they got a C the first semester with another semester left? I would get him a tutor to help learn the material now instead of giving up on this year. |
+1 Making sure to let your kid's know that their grades define them and their worth in life. Class A parenting

Do you have a child at an MCPS HS? From your answer, my guess is no. |
Different poster, why? If the student worked hard and received a B or maybe even an A, it shows something. Yes, the C would remain on the transcript, but the colleges would see the student stuck it out. |
“Giving up on this year” means the poster thinks grades are yearly, not semesterly. Your response, though interesting, isn’t about retaking the first semester of the class. |
Yes. I think if my child showed this level of improvement during the second semester, I would not have him repeat it this summer. |
Yes, I do. We use the free tutoring service which has been really helpful. Why let your kid struggle when there is extra help available with no limits on how much you use? |
Grades are each semester but the class itself is a full year class. They still have plenty of time for learning the material -- assuming that's your goal, rather than padding his transcript. |
Absolutely. |
+1 Less worried about the C than whether the child is able to be successful in the next math class. |
People who are happy with a C in MCPS classes and refuse an offer of free education not being willing and able to write a logical argument? There might be a causal relationship there, assuming the parent has similar academic caliber as student. Even if you only want school for free daycare, and not education, why wouldn't you want it in summer as well? |
