We flew TAP out of Dulles to Lisbon. No issues whatsoever.

It’s fine but the Portuguese equivalent of CBP has some work slowdowns scheduled periodically during the summer so keep an eye on that/add some time.

Dumpster fire of an airline. They lost our bags and didn’t even respond to our claims request for compensation until about 14 months later, which was of course denied (they prob want to wear you out from getting your compensation required under EU law). There was a massive queue at the airport because TAP lost so many bags. Terribleness.

Don't check bags and go direct if at all possible.
Thats really the only solution for most airlines.
Most are fine if you do that. Any other time I've had a layover or checked its been a hassle (iceland air, united, american, etc). TAP isnt any different.

TAP is different. A four-hour line at the Lisbon airport just to speak with a customer service rep (and that business as usual, there wasn't a big storm or something) and 10 hours getting dropped from calls just to reschedule a flight. TAP is great, unless you have an issue.

I flew United nonstop to Portugal last summer and then UA had outsourced my return flight with Air Canada and that was A MESS. The actual main flight itself was fine but the complete and utter disorganization both in portugal and in Montreal was awful and resulted in significant stress and a missed connection so just be careful with that. Could be a "summer 2022 craziness" situation hard to say.

Air Canada is terrible

Frequetn flyer here. I fly them all the time to Asia for work from the US, usually via YYZ but sometimes by YUL. Never had an issue. Their business class is better than United too, in terms of food and amenities. Staff is so-so.

Had no problem with them over spring break, but we did do carry on only. Flew first, and the food was good.

Oh and yes, it was a direct flight.
