I tend to overspend when I use credit cards but I’m scared to use a debit card because I feel like

I use credit for everything because of the security but I never carry a balance. In your position, I’d exclusively use my debit card or cash. Risks of a once or twice a lifetime fraud that can’t be remediated are smaller and less likely that building up credit card debt you can’t afford.

I recommend that you go through your monthly bills and find out exactly what your maximum credit card amount can be every month in order to meet your financial goals. For me my goal is to save at least 20% of my take home pay every month. After subtracting out my fixed monthly payment obligations I determined what my maximum credit card payment can be each month to meet my savings goal. It’s easier for me to manage this instead of a rigid budget broken down on a line by line level.

Also I regularly check my credit card balance every week so I have an idea of where my spending stands so I don’t exceed my maximum credit card bill amount.
