Newborn feeding issues

She said he WONT eat earlier than the three hour mark, so that won’t work.

But if he eats 3 oz at each feeding and he eats 8 times a day, then that's 24 ounces, right?

I second a cool cloth, and also - many babies just take a long time to eat at this age. But that's all they are doing right now - eating, pooping, and sleeping - they aren't playing with toys, they are just doing the 3 basic: eat, sleep, poop/pee. In a few months he'll be more able to do more things as he'll be able to follow toys, bring things to his mouth to chew on, bat at toys on a mobile, all the things.

For right now, you just need to feed him and if it takes an hour, then play some lovely music that you enjoy, or watch a tv show you enjoy, and really - try (I know, it's hard) to just relax into feeding him. don't think about the dirty dishes, the floor to vacuum, the laundry to be done... that will get done but for now.... just feed him and enjoy snuggling him while you do it.

Has he been checked for tongue/lip ties? That can make the baby inefficient at transferring milk even if they have no problem latching. My daughter had a minor tongue tie that several doctors/lactation consultants ignored at first, but it made a huge difference when we had it released when she was about one month old.
