Do people even put Commended on their applications? I have no idea if the school announced it or not. She calculated it herself. Missed semi finalist by 1 point. Currently at an Ivy.
Life goes on. |
This! Having the school being responsible for "notifying" students about this is so unnecessary. This should just be something the students can see in their College Board portal and download a certificate if they want to. |
Delightful false equivalencies! Wow. |
| A student who achieves National Merit Commended is likely to have plenty of other good things to show in their academic record - including, of course, the strong test scores that earned them that status to begin with. If it were my kid not having gotten the letter, yes, I'd be angry and want to take steps to help ensure that this never happened again. But I would not tbh be worried that this specific individual situation had cost them something that they were well positioned to earn (admission to a given school, an award of some kind). There are exceptions to every generalization, though, and given the numbers, there is probably someone out there who missed out on something - which is why National Merit should be sending out their own information directly to students _as_well_as_ notifying the schools. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out how to do that. |
As did Blair. |
I never did even though I had that award. In fact, I never really gave it much thought. |
They seriously need to put down the pipe. |
THIS! |
How is it anti-Asian racism? Given the demographics of the school, weren't the majority of students whose feelings they were trying to spare be Asian? |

I remember putting Commended Scholar on my resume and college apps. But once I got out of college I didn’t care and no one else did either.
Colleges know the cutoffs on the PSAT and SAT for these titles. There is really not much point putting them resumes and applications. They exist purely to make kids feel better about themselves. |
Nobody really even cares about this. It's just a made-up issue by some RWNJs as payback for the admission changes that reduced cheating on admissions that had been going on for years. They're still mad they can't as easily buy their way into TJ. |
We should ask McCarthy to launch a house select committee to probe this immediately! I heard these commendations sat on an administrator's desk for a whole two hours before they were given out! It's racially motivated or discrimination since I don't like them! |
