DD joined a K-8 in middle and everyone was very welcoming.
As noted above Norwood has new students start in middle school (5-8). 8th is the least common, but that happens too (usually a family moving from out of town that wants to settle in before applying to the competitive HS's)
My child started Norwood in 6th and was one of 5 new students that year. I wish I would have known/thought to transition in 5th, I suspect the incoming group was slightly larger. I say this as advice to those looking at private MS, explore what the entry year is at a particular school. |
How does Norwood compare to others?
Yes. At least one or two each year.
Yes. Depending on the year, 2-7 new students was not uncommon. Rarely were new students accepted in 8th gr at our k-8 school.
Yes, and they are typically welcome for two reasons. Given that the schools are typically smaller, new kids are usually quite welcome. Secondly, some kids peel off to k-12s before finishing 8th grade, so there are usually some open spots, particularly in 6th and 7th grades.
Yes, we moved our son to WES for 7th grade, and his little brother even earlier. Wish we had started WES at nursery school.
Yes and the k-8 middle schools are generally well regarded vs the K-12s where they are sandwiched in the middle.
