It depends on a lot. Going very large to less large isn’t noticeable to most people/acquaintances. A friend of mine recently lost 60 lbs and mentioned it in conversation, and i honestly wouldn’t have known. Another friend went from very large to probably a normal heathy weight and I didn’t even recognize her. I hadn’t seen her in a while and even when she called my name, I stared at her blankly for several seconds bc I had no idea who she was. Even then, I didn’t directly mention her weight. I just told her she looked lovely. Meanwhile, I lost 10 lbs (from 135 to 125, 5’5”) and so many people (all women) made comments. Most were somewhat snide.
So I guess people generally don’t notice weight loss or don’t comment on it, unless you go from thin to thinner, then everyone feels entitled to comment |
I dropped 45 pounds (160 to 115). I could probably notice after the first 10. My mom noticed when I was around 140.
DH doesn't seem to have noticed (it's been 2 years) and sometimes makes comments about how "we" should work on losing weight. My BMI is <20 and his is about 38. Hopefully you will feel a change soon, OP. Don't worry about other people. |
I have lost 22 pounds in a month and a half and nobody has noticed, but I went down a clothing size. I am guessing when I lose another 20 pounds people will start to make comments. |
People only started asking me when I hit 50 pounds (lost about 20% of body weight). People had to have noticed, they just didn't say anything.
I noticed that my fat pants were loser at about 10 pounds. |
Thanks for the input everyone! Point taking on people not commenting as it's generally considered rude. I'm just frustrated that I myself haven't noticed anything yet. I feel pretty good about what I have lost so far, but it's been no walk in the park and I want more to show for it! Hopefully once I hit the ten pound mark! For reference I'm currently at about 160, 5'5, carry most of my weight in my belly. |
20 lbs for me |
I went from around 160 to 145 and I think other people noticed around 10lbs. My clothes were loose by 7lbs |
This is 100% correct. I never say anything about people's weight loss -- at most I might say, "you look great!" and people never volunteer, "oh, I lost 30 pounds!" I bet your weight loss is noticeable. Take a few photos of yourself and compare them to photos prior to your weight loss. I actually find that I notice 5-10 pounds in my face pretty easily. |
I also would not say something no matter how great the loss. I do notice even small losses. I just don’t want to comment on someone’s body parts. I’d say something if they changed hair color or were wearing something awesome, but the stuff that’s not totally in someone’s control, then no. Although I tell my DH he’s hot, but apart from that… |
I love this saying
It takes 4 WEEKS For you to see your body changing It takes 8 WEEKS For your friends and family to see it It takes 12 WEEKS For the rest of the world to see it Keep going! |
I am almost 5 feet tall and lost 22 pounds over the last few months (down from 158 to 136). I haven’t gotten many comments at all. My clothes fit baggily (not sure if that’s a word) so that probably camouflages the weight loss. I want to lose another 20 pounds. |
I got comments at 10 lbs. I’m 5’8” and starting weight was 160. |
Don't expect other people to say anything, even if they notice. It's not something people feel comfortable commenting on any more.
For me, I noticed at 20 lbs. |
People may notice but not say anything. I never really comment on weight loss. I don't value thin as a life goal to achieve so to me losing weight isn't a fatter was bad but now thinner is good and something to praise. If someone was obese and the weight loss is for health reaons and they talk about it, then I will happily encourage and compliment their efforts to be healthier.
People also lose weight due to eating disorders, poor body image, illness, stress etc - noe of which again are things to compliment or praise. |
I'm 5'7" and went I go from 160 to 155, people notice it fast. I lose belly fat, and then I put it right back with all the sugar and carbs. |
