TJ Commended Student Emails Released - Who is really responsible?

Great parent letters, IMO (not a high school parent, so no dog in this fight)

The way he interacted with the parent is pretty problematic imo. I’m not even that worried about the screwup itself, you’re right that it’s not a big deal at all, but he behaved inappropriately in covering up his mess and tried to make it about equity and feelings… which it wasn’t.

Glad to see that Bonitatibus did her job at least.

Feelings - and tamping down the huge level of pressure TJ kids feel to perform well - was why this wasn't done as a public/school-wide announcement. That's what he was trying to say. And I think that's legit and I agree with it.

TJ really has been a mess for the past few years. The kids are fine; the problem is the adults who don't seem to know what to do with the place.

Agree with you but also one of the emails explicitly said that he was worried that distributing the letters openly would create feeling issues as well. That part is a crock.

The screw up is rarely ever as bad as the cover-up. He shouldn't have lied and shouldn't have tried to say they didn't do awards because feelings might get hurt. He should have said he made a mistake and they don't do award ceremonies anymore because nobody used to come.

I thought the letters were given out during homeroom? If they were trying to be extra discreet about it so that the kids wouldn't notice, that's dumb IMHO, but if it was just waiting until a homeroom period to pass out letters I think that's fine.

Starts off reasonable then quickly goes off the rails.

You lied to me!

Yashar seems overly focused on holding a ceremony of some sort in her letters. One of them is basically "sure, it's a logistical hassle, but if the other schools are holding them we should too!" The fact that she doesn't trust her kid to be aware of this stuff (indicated by her emphasis on notifying parents as well as students) is also quite amusing.

Because she was asking for an awards ceremony.

+1

These are HS students. Extreme Helicopter Karen.

What astounds me here is that the entire controversy surrounding these letters effectively boils down to this email exchange. Aside from this, Asra's supporting evidence is just parents who weren't aware their kids received this award.

And everyone is making this about Bonitatibus when it’s pretty clear she did exactly what she was supposed to.

Starting to think these emails didn’t come to light earlier because they clear her completely.

That's because what Asra and the other people most worked up about this really want to focus on is the Admissions process change and getting rid of the TJ leadership team because they supported changing the process.

The emails have actually been out for at least a week now, published by Asra herself - but no one noticed.
