Day old tea and coffee

This is what refrigeration is for

I don’t like hot drinks, so I drink iced leftover coffee and tea all of the time.

Tea states to grow mold and bacteria after 8 hours.

You literally pour boiling water in it to make it. It’s not going to be much worse than my canteen I hiked with in scouts with 3 day old water.

I don’t even bother to heat or ice leftover coffee. If I know it will be longer than a day will put in fridge after pot cools.

A pot of coffee tea that no other bacteria or food is in can go i to the fridge.
Would not if it’s a cup and drunk from it or added milk.

I brew cold brew coffee at room temperature for a day. It's not growing anything harmful.

Yes, when you make it, it has boiling water. But the heat will dissipate in about 20-30 min. After 8 hours, mold and bacteria that are in the air will land and start to grow feeding off the organic components and nutrients that were in the tea leaves and are now in the water. If you leave it out overnight, it may have mold and bacteria. If might not, but it might. You can avoid this by either covering the cup or refrigerating it. Both of these significantly decrease the changes that mold and bacteria will grow in your teacup.

The water in your canteen is less likely to have a problem. First, the canteen is closed. Second, there are no additives in the water that will attract or feed bacteria or mold. There is in tea. So the two are not analagous situations.

I usually reheat my tea if I make it and get busy with work and forget to drink it timely. Or I'll throw some ice cubes in it and make it iced tea. I can't stand room temp tea.

I don't drink hot coffee so I'm no help there. I do have an iced coffee maker and will brew a glass in the morning and stash it in the fridge for later.

Can the OP please come back and explain WHY this is even a thing? Why don’t you just make what you want to drink at the time?

Same. I fridge whatever I haven’t had by 11, and reheat the next morning.

Part of it is that some days I’ll have three cups and some days just one. Would you really just make one cup at a time?

I don’t know why you would do this with tea, though - don’t you just make one cup at a time? I haven’t made a teapot full of tea since I was a kid and I would make a pot for my whole family.

Yeah - I don't understand why you wouldn't do this. Absolutely nothing wrong with day old coffee (as long as it hasn't been sitting out at room temp all day long). People make cold brew coffee now (overnight in fridge) and love it.
