Person beaten to death in dc ellipse this morning

This isn’t a city government issue.

The rampant homeless problem is a DC issue and DC officials have pressed the Federal government to not evict unhoused people from Federal land in the city without a byzantine process that ensures that notice is provided and that there is coordination with DC agencies and service providers. In the meantime, DC kicks the unhoused off DC property willy nilly.

Thanks for your viewpoint, Mayor Bowser. How's your inaugural "Fresh Start" going? Or do you have some other vapid platitudinous slogan? ("Vision Zero" seemed to sum up your mayoralty more aptly.)

"As a city, we have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to. As we head into 2023 and look ahead to the next four years, this is an opportunity to come together – our city as a whole – to celebrate, reflect, and strategize,” said Mayor Bowser. “I’m incredibly grateful for the trust of DC residents and the opportunity to lead my hometown, and I’m looking forward to all we can accomplish – together. Whether you can come to one event or all four, I hope to see you there.”

Nuts, just nuts.

I’ve been living and working in big cities for 3 decades and it seems to me that the homeless populations are getting considerably more unbalanced. I think fetanyl is at least partly responsible. Crack addicts were desperate and skinny but they were not totally batshit the way a lot of these people are now. I also used to work in homeless services, so it’s not like I’m unsympathetic.

I amazed at the amount of tents by the Whitehurst Freeway. I feel like I have never seen it this bad in the 20 years I’ve been here.

How is it affecting you? You don’t live in a tent. Do you just not like seeing poor people?

Do you find it good that people are living in tents?

Violent crime is getting out of control and unfortunately there are no adults in DC government willing to do anything about it.

Bowser is too busy trying to revamp downtown and getting the Federal gov't to cancel work from home to focus on pressing issues like crime.

^ Someone who doesn’t have to live near fentanyl addicts in tents.

The parks are not for camping. Set up Quonset dorms with facilities, including dining and a health clinic at the unused RFK parking lot.

Exactly! Most of the tent occupants are non-violent but not all. There have been many unprovoked attacks by the mentally ill homeless.

It’s telling the things that DC refuses to do while trying to foist their responsibilities onto others.
