It's not hard to do this in a spreadsheet. Just copy the assignments into the sheet and set up the 90% and 10% categories. Tweak the points earned as desired. |
I got the sense that it was Synergy (the maker of parentvue) that sent the cease and desist. |
In order for the app to access the data, the students and parents had to provide their logins and passwords. No guarantees that this 3rd party is managing that data correctly or oversight on how they use the logins. Whether or not it was Synergy that took it down, I think it is good that it isn't available anymore. |
Kids used to be able to do it in the my mcps classroom app. But they've disabled it for some reason. It is unfortunate. My son's resource teacher recommended the gradeview app as an organizational tool for my son with ADHD. |
Imagine if they took the effort required to cease its existence as they did to throw a few lines of code I to their own app and recreate the functionality. |
The parent version of Canvas is unusable. Ask your DC for their username and password and look at assignments in the student version of Canvas. Parentvue and Studentvue are very similar, so there's no need for the student username and password there. |

Seems like you don't understand how the app works. It uses the StudentVue SOAP api (sends login info directly to the school's servers). The reason why it was banned was because school districts protested to Edupoint, the company school districts pay for the StudentVue/ParentVue portals. Why doesn’t MCPS give parents access to see grades in real-time? This used to be the case with Edline. Parents and students knew when an assignment was missed or a child did poorly. There was a red flag so there was time to review and relearn to fill in gaps while learning from mistakes. With Synergy, parents cannot see grades for weeks and many grades (such as quizzes) are automatically bumped up to 100% even when a child does abysmal on the task. MCPS is doing students a huge disservice with the lack of accountability and transparency in their grading. No one should be guessing at any point in the marking period what their overall grade is. |
| Our AP said that it’s MCPS policy to restrict access to the Canvas grade book. |
| yes |
| There’s a new app that works like GradeView. |
