What time do you host Thanksgiving or Christmas? Or what time does your family?

For Thanksgiving everyone arrives between 3:30-4:30 and we eat about 5.
Since I cater Christmas eve dinner and we have to pick the food up at 2:30, I don't set a time for people to arrive since we try to keep the food warm so people can eat whenever they want.

I would chew off my arm. I hope you have plenty of appetizers to serve. My MIL insisted we wait for my SIL and her family one holiday. They were stuck in traffic on 95 and we didn't eat until 9pm. Everyone was insanely hungry and irritable (and tipsy). Finally she agreed to let the kids eat around 7.

Appetizers were wiped out.

I host all three.

Thanksgiving we eat at 1 pm. We live in an area where there is still a high school rivalry Thanksgiving day football game, so everyone shows up after the game starving. I am the main cook, and I like to have leftover food put away and a load of dishes in the dishwasher. Then we watch movies or football all afternoon and evening. I have some pre-made dips to serve later on in the day and people help themselves to a plate of leftovers if they like.

Christmas Eve at 5 or 6. 6 or 7 if we are going to church, but that hasn't been happening since Covid, and now that my kids are adults.

Christmas Day we don't have a formal dinner, just grazing all day as people are in and out. Ham, quiches and baked goods for breakfast/brunch. I make 2 pans of lasagna a few days ahead of time and freeze them. Lasagna and salad are available for Christmas whenever someone comes over or is hungry. Sometimes I do a beef tenderloin roast to go with the lasagna too.

My mom always hosts thanksgiving - it is lunch - an early lunch. I am not a fan, but it makes her happy.

We host Christmas dinner. We aim around 6 pm is so. It gives time coffee and dessert without the local folks having to drive home too late.

I like it when dinner is at 2pm, means I have the am at home but eating, socializing and all that is over by the latest at like 9 p and I can go home.

Usually 3:00 and then it lasts too late into the evening. This year I went to meal where we were asked to arrive at 11, eat at 1230, and depart no later than 4:00. It was perfect.

Can I be in your family? I’ll do the dishes.

4pm. I have napping babies still and 1-3pm is nap time. I also hate eating such a heavy meal so early in the day. 4pm seems good because then we can have dessert around 6pm and my kids not be melting down yet (which happens at 7pm).

MIL serves at 1pm always and my kids are so darn grumpy. They wanted lunch at noon, so they whine for an hour about being hungry. And then they're overtired and very hungry by 1pm. Nearly every year I have to leave the table to put a baby down to bed instead of getting to eat.

Christmas at my parents: 2:30 or 3 pm. Charcuterie around 7 pm.
