Private Universities have very little incentive to not do what they want, and your counselor does not have to disclose anything.

Thanks for the responses thus far! Many PPs have focused on the college counseling office, but I’m actually more interested in whether *students* make decisions based on where their peers are applying. For example, DC is legacy at two places, and a non-legacy classmate asked which school DC is leaning towards in the early round so she could focus on the other. DC assumed she was joking, but it made me curious enough to ask DCUM!

Sorry, I meant to say the incident above *plus* the rumors I’ve heard about the CCO are what prompted me to post.

OP, I'm not sure what you are trying to get out of this thread. First you have "social anxiety" so are out of the loop, but now you are trying to confirm "rumors".

Seems obvious: OP doesn’t want to ask at school and get pegged as a possible college-app-obsessed parent, so she’s asking anonymously. I bet a lot of parents are curious but don’t dare ask…
