Are you always such a sponge?

That’s not fair to OP. They weren’t wanting to go without contributing, they were wanting to avoid it altogether. Because she is being pressured to attend, she is looking for a contribution that she can make to the dinner she has no interest in.

Can you offer to bring the paper products?

Get two or three good sourdough baguettes and slice them right away. Put them in Ziploc bags/https://www.mashed.com/315867/dont-make-this-easy-mistake-with-mexican-wedding-cookies/ Put Costco Artichoke dip in a microwaveable dish with lid (if you want to serve hot-can serve cold) Buy a cheap plastic platter you can fling in car without worrying about. Bring a spoon. Microwave the dip, spread on baguettes and Bob’s your uncle.

My Mom, who was famous in her group of friends for always bringing the best potluck food, wasn't able to cook for one of them. She bought chicken tenders from KFC or Chick-fil-A. They were a huge hit!!

It is literally what she said in her follow up.

Op - are you looking for easy? Or just trying to figure out what you bring for 12 people? If lunch, appetizer food always went over big at ours. Vegetables and dip, chips and salsa, deviled eggs. Hummus tray. And there is nothing wrong about asking if they need paper products.

Op here. Thanks everyone!. I think I'm going to make some cookies and bring a fruit and veggie tray from the store. There was no sign up sheet or delegation as far as I can tell for who should bring what.

As I clarified later on I was never planning to go to this but have been highly advised by my supervisor to attend. We are busy all weekend so I didn't know if buying something was appropriate or if I had to make something homemade. I have not been to a work potluck before. And I always cook for family ones.

office potluck = more forced camaraderie among people who are not friends and should not be forced to act like friends

Artichoke spinach dip. Naan dippers. From Costco.

2 bags of Ikea frozen meatballs. Microwave, then make a slightly more liquidy and buttery gravy (ikea sells the gravy powder in a packet, follow directions), dump everything in a crockpot and simmer on low in the office. Place Ikea lingonberry jam in a pretty dish. Serving spoons, a plate for spoon rest etc. Everyone loves it and behaves that it is the best thing they ever ate.

You will be the star of the show.

Costco large jumbo can of chickpeas. Premade Indian masala sauce, enough to cover the chickepeas. Combine the chickpeas and sauce. Simmer in crockpot. Adjust seasoning. Serve with naan dippers.

Go and pick up an aluminium foil pan of fresh made samosas from any Indian restaurant. Serve with their chutney and tomato ketchup. Done!!

There are only 12 people so it is a very small crowd. Don't be a cheapster. Get good food.
