Everyone on this thread just stop.
MCPS is a great school system and if you don't like it move to private. Every school system has it's challenges including private. When kids go to college from MCPS they do not fail out because they were unprepared. FACT. You want schools like MO, AZ, AR, MS, Ohio, Florida move! |

Rockville HS also has an IB program but only offers Honors English in 9th and 10th

Seneca Valley has the MYP IB program and does not have pre-IB English 9 and 10. |
Let me guess: you are an employee in Central Office? |
No, they just take a lot of remedial classes…no big deal. Also, Florida and Ohio score higher than MD on NAEP so check your ego Ms. MCPS booster |
| There is no way every kid is bright enough to take honors anything. Not helping those kids work towards a future job, |
Its not honors. It is grade level but parents are happier if it is called honors and kids GPAs are helped by the extra point...but really MCPS is out of 5 not 4 and hte collleges can see that., |
|
Then don't call it Honors. Pure bunk. |
| Einstein parent here. I can confirm this. My 9th grader was told a month ago by her English teacher that she should be in pre-ib english next year. There is no pre-ib 10th grade english. Apparently the teachers weren't aware of this change either. |
We're trying to understand why specific courses are no longer offered and why courses our kids are recommended to take by teachers don't exist. I don't understand why no one from central office who oversees curriculum can comminicate these changes to teachers, parents and students before course registration time. That's all. |
OP here: F You!!! I don’t have the option to pay $50k per year for private per kid. MCPS is not meeting my kid’s needs. What is happening where they remove standards, remove challenge DOES NOT help anyone |
| This is bullshit. |
| This is someting that MCCPTA curriculum committee should take on. There should be differentiation for all academic courses in high school. (Middle school too ideally, but in high school it is a greater priority.) |
Is she currently in ninth grade pre IB English? |
