It’s a vegetable for God’s sake! Why are you “limiting” it? |
At some point sodium became vilified for some reason. There’s nothing wrong eating a few pickles a day. |
If the kid were a nonagenarian withe kidney failure it might make sense. |
My kid is addicted to Bubbie’s pickles. Can’t blame her. They’re amazing. |
I would love it if my child was into pickles. Pickles, if prepared right, are healthy. Let him have the pickles. The vinegar is good for his system. If fermented, even better. |
Bless this kid and this thread |
Sad to report that No. 1 Sons shut down earlier this Fall. |
First, the sodium doesn’t have to be a big deal, because you can make or buy low-sodium pickles. See: https://feastgood.com/low-sodium-pickles/ But craving salty pickles could be a symptom of Addison’s disease or some other endocrine problem, so it might be good to insist on tests for that: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/apeoplevillage/mystery-diagnosis-the-woman-who-craved-pickles-t2697.html If your son is craving the taste of vinegar, that could be a symptom of a fungal infection, blood sugar problems, or a deficiency of magnesium or some other mineral that’s present in vinegar: https://bronniebakes.com/what-does-mean-when-crave-vinegar/ |
That sounds fun! You should buy a bunch and do a pickle tasting. Maybe try to make your own pickles. See if he likes cucumbers. He’s 3, OP. Have some fun with your kid. He’ll be fine. |
Agree with others it’s a vegetable!!
See if he likes olives too - flavor profile is similar. |
Fine, mine loved pickles and olives. |
A pickle is not a vegetable. It is not even made from a vegetable. It is a fruit dunked in vinegar. |
Take him to the parkway deli and try the pickle bar! |
Or it could be a sign that…he likes the taste of pickles. |
Make your own! Also try pickles carrots and radishes. My now 6 year old loved picked and pickled cabbage as a toddler. I made my own and she ate some with every meal. All the fermented foods are so so good for the gut and i think its a sign of a mature taste that she liked salty/vinegwry/fermented things and not just sweet. She still does. Im eastern european and we mostly only had pickled vegetables in winter. |
