I'm the 43 y.o. from above. If your husband's sperm checks out as ok, then every other day, or even more is ok (or so I was advised by an RE and by another non-MD professional in the RE field). I have to tell you though, trying for three times in a short period of time is not as much fun as I'd hoped.

I really only get good CM about once every three months these days. My current pregnancy and the prior unsuccessful one were both a result of OPKs. I had just started temping when I got this +hpt.

I agree with PP - get out all the guns (temp, OPK, etc.) and have sex earlier and more often. I've always heard to have sex on *at least* on or around days 10, 12, 14, 16 and on (or including) ovulation day whenever that is.

In my personal experience, I got pregnant and had a baby when I wasn't doing all this analysis and got pregnant much earlier in my cycle than I expected. Now I am trying to get pregnant again and have started charting, but am also trying to have sex on a longer range of time to cover all the bases. A lot of this process isn't crystal clear, so I agree with the PP about a sperm "reserve."

Having said that ... does anyone know the facts about sex every other day vs. every day during the peak days prior to and including ovulation? I've heard both theories in trying to maximize the chance of pregnancy, so if the sperm is known to be fine, should we be trying every day or every other day? or neither?

My understanding is that unless there is a known problem with your partner's sperm you should have sex every day during your fertile period. Of course, for us of "advanced maternal [and paternal] age," that can be difficult to put into practice!

At first it was hard for both my husband (43) and me (38) to have sex even every other day when we started TTC three years ago. So we both started taking Maca supplement (a natural supplement that increases libido) and use Preseed and now we can have sex every day. Still not pregnant, but hopeful.
