I’m not the OP, but I grew up in the United Methodist Church and miss hearing traditional songs from the Hymnal. A Mighty Fortress is Our God, To God Be the Glory, How Great Thou Art, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, etc. |
Awwww this brings back memories. I would get my dad the WOW Gospel CD every year for Christmas. |

Last Mile of the Way
This Little Light of Mine There Will Be Peace in the Valley for Me I Told the Storm |

I'm the Methodist PP and yes! My hometown church choir director was also my piano teacher, and I spent lots of time learning hymns out of the Unite Methodist Hymnal. I guess that's why I feel such an affinity for that music, along with the memories of my grandmother. We live in NoVA now, and I have struggled to find a church with the traditional feel of the music I grew up with, combined with an active children's program/ministry. It just doesn't exist. I don't mind the bands and contemporary music to some extent, but I just wish there was a more traditional musical flavor on occasion. |
