PPs tried to make wreaths some kind of pagan symbol |
Tell her it’s the season of pagan symbols and Amazon trucks? |
|
I'm Jewish; we never had a wreath and I would assume that someone who had one on their door was celebrating Christmas, in the same way that I would assume that someone who had a decorated tree in their living room was celebrating Christmas. But in neither case would I assume that they were religious, as there are many people who celebrate Christmas but do not go to church.
If you are of another heritage or religion and do not celebrate Christmas and do not want others to think that you do, I wouldn't hang a wreath. |
But did OP? The above comment is directed to the OP. |
| I would generally interpret an evergreen wreath as celebrating Christmas, but I've also seen winter-themed wreaths made of other materials that just seem seasonal and not religious to me. |
Tell her that it’s a religious season for more than just Christians. |
| they are Satanic 😈 |
I know people who have wreaths for all seasons. It doesn’t really indicate anything other than “I am hanging a seasonal wreath on my door”. |
I agree with this. Depends on what OP means by "esp averse of christmas and the culture around it." Putting up a wreath, especially an evergreen wreath in December, is likely to make people assume you celebrate Christmas, religiously or culturally. Are you averse of that too? |
|
OP here- your comments are hilarious, thanks so much.
Clarification: I have nothing against people who want to observe xmas, obvi. But we are not christians (nor pagans) as mentioned and I really do not like how it is a time of excessive shopping and waste of resources. For those of you who are having an environmentally friendly christmas, you have all my respect, and merry xmas

History would say otherwise. Have a happy holidays. |
OP yes it is Christmas to most people. something intertwined or arranged in a circular shape: such as. : a decorative arrangement of foliage or flowers on a circular base. a Christmas wreath. : a band of intertwined flowers or leaves worn as a mark of honor or victory : First thing most people think I personally as a non religious person would be your husbands thought process. |
In that case, I think you're good. I would also say, when I see a winter wreath on a house in my neighborhood that always has a seasonal wreath on the door, I *don't* assume they're celebrating christmas, just that they like decorating. So if you establish yourself as a wreath house, that may change the assumptions people make. Anyway, happy winter/new year's! I hope you have a nice season, albeit not christmas.

Thanks so much, to you too

Well yes, there are other kinds of wreaths. For example, if you put this wreath on your door in October, people will not assume you are celebrating Christmas. They will assume you are celebrating Halloween. https://www.potterybarn.com/products/faux-pre-lit-black-twig-bat-wreath-mp/?catalogId=84&sku=4490177&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Pillows%20%26%20Decor%20%3E%20Wreaths%20%26%20Garlands®ion_id=477340&cm_ite=4490177_14546951676&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI29XEidvi-wIVBo3ICh2CnAUXEAQYBCABEgJFnvD_BwE There are winter wreaths that don't signal Christmas, like this one: https://www.potterybarn.com/products/silver-night-wreath-mp/?catalogId=84&sku=606857&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Pillows%20%26%20Decor%20%3E%20Wreaths%20%26%20Garlands®ion_id=477340&cm_ite=606857_14546951676&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoOnn4tvi-wIVhbLICh1aZQopEAQYAyABEgJVIvD_BwE But that doesn't sound like what OP is talking about. |
