No. That's why I don't do it unless I'm buying small increments for teacher gifts. I don't want to wrap up money in gift cards. The risk of me not spending the card is way higher than the 5% saving.

No, and if you pay online with a gift card, you don't get free shipping even if you are logged in to your Red Card account. Boo. Only buy what you will spend in store or give as gifts.

We used to give Target GCs to teachers but then realized there aren’t that many Targets around. So now we just do Amazon

OP here. Make sure you have the Target app. At the store, you’ll need to activate the offer, then go to your wallet in the app to show the bar code at the register. Teacher gifts done!

Pay for part of it with a gift card and part of it with your Target cc, and you’ll still get the free shipping. I plan to load up on $25 cards for this.
