Sibling preference at beauvoir is at pre-k so almost the entire K class is new.

So, the reasoning is that there is likely to be more waitlist movement because non-sibs are less likely to accept than sibs?

No. There are just more slots available to begin with. Beauvoir fills 3 classes at prek so, even though many of those spaces are filled with siblings, there are still more spots than most other schools. At K, presumably, most all of the spaces are available for non-siblings at Beauvoir. So, even though they only fill one class at K, most of those spots are for non-siblings. Sidwell, however, seems to take a lot of its siblings at K. I am told that the chances of getting in at Pre-K, for non-siblings is better than for K.

Is this a new policy at Beauvoir?

But we're talking about movement off the wait list, not about the chances of getting acepted initially, right? If the intake at all four schools is about the same (20), it seems to me that if the chances of movement are better at Beauvoir, it must be because fewer people have Beauvoir as their top choice--possibly because fewer of those accepted for K are sibs, possibly because Beavoir only goes through 3rd grade. Or is there another explanation?

I'm a little surprised that everyone seems to agree that the chances are better at Beavoir than Sidwell, although Sidwell's wait list is "real" and Beauvoir seems to waitlist everybody--I guess nobody turns down Sidwell! And I guess that if Sidwell takes more sibs at K, that doesn't make things any better.

16:05 here. I was tring to trying to come up with a reason to explain the claim that there might be more movement off Beauvoir's wait list. The claim seems plausible to me because of the larger number of non-siblings admitted in March (siblings have a separate earlier process) at Beauvoir, but I don't know if it is actually true.

Wait lists move for many reasosns. Some families decide they don't want to pay the tuition and drop out. Some families move out of the area. Beauvoir has 80 kids int K, the chances that some will leave for any number of reasons is a bit higher than some of the other schools because they have the most number of classes at each grade level.

I see--that makes sense. I was thinking just in terms of the kids newly accepted for K, but I suppose it is possible that some of those who have already attended Beauvoir for pre-K will choose not to continue, for whatever reason. Thanks.

OP here. Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts. I've been trying not to take these outcomes personally--and I've succeeded to the extent that I don't think that there's anything "wrong" with us or our daughter or that the schools have "dissed" us in any way. But I can't escape the feeling that we are just part of a large group of families that are not of particular interest to these schools. Just venting, but it's so frustrating feeling that we are knocking and knocking on a door that may never open, while other (equally deserving) families seem to have found some kind of key. Fortunately, we do have a school for our daughter next year. It's a very good school, but for a number of reasons, it was not our top choice; it was our safety. (Thank goodness we had one!) So we'll stay in touch with the schools where she was waitlisted, but for the most part, I'm going to take the advice of several PPs and make the best of the option we have, try not to think about this for the next few months, and reassess in the fall. But I don't mean to shut down the discussion--other perspectives from families who have been in this position are most welcome.

I do not think SIBS are admitted early at Beauvoir if you read the website they are encouraged and expected to apply at Pre - K so new families can be admitted at K. The sibling policy is on the website under admissions.
