Book ideas for 96 y.o. FIL (for the holidays)

Bill brysons books are really good read — I loved notes from a small island about England/. Also, every year there is an anthooogy of the best American science writing — a collection of articles and short pieces. I read it one year and loved it—basically all of the articles were super interesting.

I would not get him something like unbroken which might be really triggering to someone who served. My elderly relatives who served in the marines in ww2 spent decades getting over seeing their best friends literally blown to bits next to them. Another was in a POW camp and literally never talked about it—he nearly starved to death there and many of his friends did.
