We did it every night with an 18 month old in Lisbon because dinner times were so much later than her usual bedtime. We found her through an agency, and had a great experience but it was mostly just sitting in the apartment while our daughter slept.

Yes, in Paris. We used an agency to rent an apartment and the owner arranged for one for us, who turned out to be his own children’s sitter. All was well.

My sister has worked as a nanny like this in both Hawaii and Southern California. Private agencies and high-end hotels. Sister has babysat a lot of celebrity kids. Expensive; sister makes really good money and works only when she wants to.
