Do all preemies need PT/OT?

Mine was less than two pounds, only needed PT at age four when she was W-sitting from lack of good core. Only a few months.

My baby was born 37 weeks at just 5lbs2oz. Always on the lower end weight wise but has never needed PT or OT. Has met or exceeded all developmental benchmarks too.

Our 36 weeker has never been adjusted. Some milestones he was on the lower end but hasn’t required pt/ot. We were concerned about his speech, he was on the lower range at his 18 month checkup but our pediatrician suggested a wait and see approach. Suddenly he’s babbling a ton and saying new words almost daily at 19.5 months.

35 weeks. PT for torticollis, what she would’ve had whether she was preemie or on time or past her due date. No delays or issues other than being on the small size. At age 5 is still 10th percentiles.

33 weeker, 3 weeks in NICU, never needed any PT or OT. Was caught up on milestones before 1 year old. 36 weeks is late preterm so unless your pediatrician flags something as concerning it would not be abnormal for her to not need any extra support.

DD1 was 34 weeks 1 Day. Was 4lbs 2oz at birth. Is 6 now and never needed any PT or OT. Walked at 9.5 months and was talking up a storm at 18 months. Never even thought to get assessed as she hit all milestones and most early

Your baby sounds great! I don’t know what your friends are talking about. My preemie was born at 33 weeks and weighed 4.3 lbs. 2 weeks in NICU. Hasn’t needed PT or OT and will be 8 months soon. She’s thus far met all of her milestones according to her adjusted age. My pediatrician recommended this CDC app which tracks milestones based on adjusted age - it’s awesome! GL!

Preschool teacher here. Highly recommend self-referring for Early intervention. They may say DD needs nothing. Great! Keep looping back in every time you have a concern. Lots of full-term babies need OT/PT. Take advantage of the free services!!!

My son was born at 34+3 weighing 4 lbs 7 ozs. He will be 6 months old tomorrow (actual) and is around 17 lbs now. He’s been rolling since 3.5 months and has been sitting completely unassisted for 2 weeks now. He’s also able to scoot himself all around his play mat too. His pediatrician has said absolutely nothing about PT and was so impressed with his milestones at 4 months and said he was “ahead” of where he should be for a preemie.
