Can you tell pretty quickly if a kid or group of kids are private schoolers?

No. I live in Bethesda, where the public and private school kids all do the same things, buy the same things, drive similar cars, have overlapping social circles and generally end up at the same universities and jobs... because they have the same sort of parents.

Totally agree. I am in Bethesda and one of my kids went to private and one to public school. No real difference in their friend groups that would identify them as public v. private. Fancy vacations, focused on college admissions, expensive travel sports, etc.

If the OP's question is code for wealthy vs. poor, that is a different question.

By their sweater vests!

JK, but I recently watched a movie that took place at a private school and they had the kids all in uniforms with sweater vests with the school crest on it. I realized that in movies ans tv, they always have private school kids wearing sweater vests. As a private school grad and parent, I have never seen a school where this was part of the uniform.

Rich kids are skinnier and better dressed. They have better skin and hair from vigorous exercise and protein and vegetable-based diet.

I've had parents in my proximity do it with perfect accuracy and I don't know what they're picking up on. And no, the kids weren't wearing uniforms.

Genetics, nutrition, and access to great health care (including dermatologist and orthodontist) all play a huge roll in not only how teens look but also how they behave. Poor nutrition can make teens appear dull and sluggish and also cause them to act impulsive and loud in public; ex. low protein, nutrient and mineral deficiencies, too many carbs and sugars.

Why does this exact same question keep getting asked? This is at least the 3rd time I’ve seen this thread.

And something more substantial, in the improvement of their minds by extensive reading.

I've seen this word around a few times but what exactly is a je ne sais quoi?

Snark aside, I actually can often tell the two groups apart when they're in high school. I live on the DC-MD line and probably encounter the same kids as PP.

Superficially, yes, they all wear the same high waisted joggers and drive the same Jeep Wranglers and have similar hair. It's when you actually get in a conversation that they tend to sort into one group or the other.
