11:44 - Cape Cod is NOT a hot spot for Lyme disease. Get your facts straight. Cape Cod only has two warm months, which would make your statement impossible. ANY beach community has long grass. ANY beach community would be more susceptible to having ticks than a non beach community. Pay attention to any statements that are being made about any disease, OP. But I imagine you are educated. |
My God - We're talking about a tick. Why the hostility? |
Jeez, angry much? I'm sorry if you consider my statements false. However, if you look at this map, you will see that you are at a much higher risk of contracting Lyme Disease on Cape Cod than say Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks or any other area of coastline south of Delaware/New Jersey. So your statement about any beach community being high risk is not true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lyme_Disease_Risk_Map.gif My point to the OP was that my husband had all they symptoms including the rash, yet never tested positive when he went to multiple doctors down here. This may have changed in the 6 years since he had it, but he did not feel like many of the drs around here knew much about Lyme Disease when he asked them about it. He ended up having to get a PICC line as well and still has symptoms 6 years later. My point was that the OP should not ignore her symptoms (which she is not) even if she tests negative because you can test negative and still have Lyme. |

Agree with PP. Amazing that someone can get so pissy about an innocent post about Cape Cod and ticks.
Anyplace that is overrun with deer is a place that you need to be careful about deer ticks. Also, I am not sure that "ANY beach community has long grass." I can actually think of a few that don't. Quite the general statement for someone so concerned about getting one's facts straight. |
| I'm here to tell you that much of the Oregon coast does not have long grass. |
| I know several people who have gotten Lyme in PG county. Greenbelt Park (the national park) is over run with them and several people had gotten Lyme after a group outing there. One friend of mine had no idea he had a tick bite and it went undiagnosed for about six months. By that time he was suffering arthritic symptoms and was walking with a cane. It was amazing how the disease had effected him. Now, when my mother got it, she had the rash right away. She was/is in poor health and with immediate treatment suffered no lasting effects from the disease. |
I don't believe that is true. I have heard of cases where it was in for only a few hours and people got Lyme. I think I had it (or something) because I immediately developed a bright red rash in the bite area, but I immediately got on antibiotics so all test came back negative after the antibiotics. Good luck OP, I hope you don't have it, but it is best to get tested just in case. I believe Lyme disease is more common in this area than realized by most. In live in FFx county and I know two people in my neighborhood who got it from my neighborhood. |
where would you get it tested? |
