Preschool and Daycare Discussion
| She's not a cheerleader, and she can be very gruff, opinionated, inflexible, and disorganized, but she is brutally honest and does have a very deep understanding of child development and a passion for bringing out the best in every child. She is very supportive and available when parents come to her with any questions or concerns about their kids, even unrelated to school. She definitely cares deeply about each child in the school and does what she can to help each one grow and succeed. For us that outweighs the bad traits. |

LFS is not for every child. I've had the benefit of having two kids in two different preschools and I definitely appreciate the environment at LFS vs the other school.
OP, I'm glad you pulled your child out if you were not happy with the school. That's what we're supposed to do as parents, find the best environment for our kids. Is LFS a top 10 preschool? I really do not know and quite frankly, it does not matter to me. My second child will start at LFS this fall and I'm very happy that she'll also have the same experience as her older sibling. |
| Where do the families whose kids go to LFS live? We are thinking about applying since we both work nearby and have a friend's kid enrolled, but we don't live in the city. (Please don't flame me, just a question, and we are shopping for houses in DC now.) |
| PP: meant to say "know" a friend's kid who's enrolled... |
Most are from Georgetown, but therre are a few from Md and VA, and other parts of DC. |

To the poster blasting the Little Folks director a few posts above:
I wonder if there's anything lower in life than using an anonymous message board post to disparage an identifiable person. Where is your dignity, your sense of shame? I'm a current Little Folks parent, and I couldn't be happier with the school, the director, the teachers or the parent community. Just a lovely place. |
| My post was not intended to disparage her. Did you read the whole thing? I concluded that the good outweighs the bad. |
Not the poster that directed the comment at you, but really? Your entire post was not meant to disparage the director and this well regarded school? FWIW, I am not a parent there but read your post as highly disparaging. Among other things, you said: "The teachers are not qualified and neither they, nor the director have degrees in anything relevant to early childhood education (some have no degrees at all.) The school does not follow any particular methodology and has no curriculum like most of the other schools it is often compared to. Yet, it's tuition is among the highest." If you did not mean for your many posts to disparage the school and its director, you should hire a proofreader as there is nothing that comes across as positive about the school in any of your posts. They read as if you have a axe to grind. |
| That wasn't me- that was OP. I was 7:50. |
| I agree LF is not for everyone, but it fits our family extremely well. The teachers are loving, patient, creative and always available to discuss issues. We feel so fortunate to have found a place that appreciates our children on an individual basis - the good, the bad and the ugly. There is a reason old students return time and time again to summer camp and even to teach. I am confident my children will forever cherish their LF experience -- I only wish I had a similar experience when I was their age. I also know my children's experience is based in large part on the dedication and passion of the school's director. |
I am sorry, I thought it was the prior post from the OP that was referenced. I agree that your post was one that I would consider an endorsement with open eyes. |
| Get a life, people. Different schools are good for different kids and families. Little Folks is a great place--if you did not like it, hope it worked out for you elsewhere. NO school is perfect. |

Ok, this sounds like it was written by an administrator from LFS. |
| Gay isn't the sort to write about herself. |
